The picture in my profile was taken in a hotel room just before our Mardi Gras party at the Hilton in New Orleans. The NAEMT who was sponsoring the conference put on this party for us (the Friday night before the storm). At this point and even throughout the party and throuout the night I had no idea of the impending storm due to hit early Monday morning or late Sunday night. The pictures I have posted are from before the storm, during the storm and also after the storm. I arrived in New Orleans the Monday before the hurricane. My flight was due to go out the day of the storm and obviously it was cancelled. I also had no rental car and none were to be had. Sunday morning the mayor ordered a mandatory evacuation. I left all my belongings at the hotel and walked to the Superdome. It was widely publicised on the media that the superdome was the place where all the medically challenged people, who could not evacuate, were to go. Since I could not evacuate, I went to the Superdome and found that they desperately needed help. I was a paramedic with Ballston Lake ambulance. Out of 5000 EMS conference attendees in New Orleans (the conference ended Saturday), it was only 3 people from Cincinatti and myself who ended up going to the Superdome to help. We had few resources and very little staff attending to the medical needs of thousands of people........more to come.
